So currently I feel I have a forced smile on my face when people ask me how things are? It’s hard to resist not launching into a full on rant.

Today’s announcement is another dip on the rollercoaster we are all finding ourselves on. My heart goes out to my couples who now face changing their plans and to all my industry pals who face an uncertain future potentially without any financial support.

So I wanted to remind myself of what I love and why I do it. I will be back again one day doing what I love, we will get through this, you will get to marry the love of your life and one day this will all be a memory.

There is a lot going on here at TWE, last week we moved into our new home so its all action stations trying to get my new studio space up and running. A lot of separate pieces have to fall into place before it can all be completed so I will keep you posted as to when I can host hire viewings again.

The Picnic-

If this summer has taught me anything it is how much I love a picnic. Being outside, eating good food and the sense of escapism. I will forever be grateful for the #stayhomepicnic service @nikkitapdesigns_hire and I created right back at the start of lockdown. It’s kept me busy and kept previous income coming in.

What started as the low level chill out area 2 years ago, soon became a hit at weddings and has evolved and grown over time. I have loved this year turning it into a more intimate offering, from birthdays to baby showers, I really feel the picnics are my thing! The boho vibes of the Persian rugs and the cleaner lighter tones of the jute rugs have filled many a garden or lounge if the weather hasn’t been great!

So long may the picnics continue!

Tomorrow I have my first wedding since March and my only guaranteed wedding until Feb 2021. It feels slightly bitter sweet, I am super excited, full of nerves like I am a newbie again, but its tinged with sadness that this will be the only wedding I work on in a whole 12 months.

One number

This one big number represents everyone who will not be getting paid today. This is just one day, not the weekend, not the week, just today.

The wedding industry is seasonal that season is drawing to an end. As a business I am usually busy in September and October but after next weekend I have an empty diary until Feb 2021. That is zero income. We would have usually worked our arses off through the summer to get us through the quieter winter but that was impossible this year.

But hey at least we have been supported by the government 😂😂😂😂😂 so much sarcasm! The government has left behind so many small hard working businesses, they have constantly failed to understand the workings of the wedding and events industry.

So many of my fellow suppliers have had their mental health torn to shreds their businesses disappear in front of them. The only comfort is as an industry we are full of fighters, who have each other’s backs, we will bounce back because we are strong not because we have had an ounce of support.

This is me! I’ve had a lot of new followers lately and I want to say a huge thank you for finding your way to my corner of Instagram. This is also Devon my mini me who definitely keeps me on my toes juggling The White Emporium and being a mum.

The White Emporium was born out of my love of creating and my inability to still and do nothing. What started as a hobby has turned into my life, I live, breath and sleep weddings. I’m fortunate that weddings have lead me to be able to create content to tell stories through visual imagery and this is an area I am definitely hoping to explore more and grow into.

Watching as the idea continues to evolve and develop as more layers are added to the design and gradually the look takes shape. 4 years ago I planned my first styled shoot and although the results were amazing I found the process very stressful and vowed never to organise my own shoot again. However this year I have found my feet again, I have maybe gained confidence with age, I am no longer fearful of approaching people to collaborate with me and I believe in my story telling.

Over the past few weeks I have been working on lots of different projects and one of the things I have loved is getting to consider the very smallest of styling details. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When you layer the small details together they create a story, build a vision and create a mood. When working with brands and editorials it is important the viewer is enticed to see more, they must feel a connection and a warmth to the story you are telling.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
