Top Three Styling Trends 2018 –

18th November 2017 by Gemma Leave a Comment

In the first of a series of blog posts I will be looking at some of the key styling trends of 2018, with details soon to be hitting the new wedding scene, don’t worry the good old brass candle stick isn’t going anywhere, but it does have some new friends to sit with.

Like all trends they are influenced by social movements and whats happening in the world of interior design, refined by wedding creatives in styled shoots they then find themselves as key parts of your day.

Transparent –

This year we have seen the introduction of Perspex as stationary material for the use of everything from table plans to place names. This now goes one step further with ghost chairs and Perspex tables making their way across the Atlantic from the dreamy outdoor weddings of California. Admittedly a ghost chair isn’t for everyone and I would always pick a chair to suit the venue, they do however add an amazing level of light and freshness to your wedding décor. Not quite sold on the Perspex then glass will be in abundance, next year I look forward to writing table numbers on glass photo frames and filling large glass distillers with an array of grasses and greenery.

Backdrops –

Nothing makes for a blog submitting wedding more than a dramatic backdrop. Whether that be at the bottom of your aisle or behind the top table. Stylists and florists are getting more and more creative in their designing and the results are all about adding that wow factor. A lot of it is about building on textures and this is where a stylist and florist working together can really come into their own. Key materials include of course Perspex and glass, but also softening chiffon and wire frames, really think about depth of framing yourselves with adding in plinths and details on the floor, such as candles and Perisan rugs. Shapes of backdrops are changing as well, crescents and circles are key shapes for floral designs and chiffon and fabrics are suspended in the air as if they are floating. A simple archway turns into a grid and the flowers just get more dramatic.

Grid Backdrops

Grids are perfect for building layers of floral displays on.

Grazing Table –

2017 was the year of the doughnut 2018 will be the year of the grazing table and the rise of the savouries! (Yes finally!) A cheese board has never looked so good when it its styled with an array of meats, antipasti, chutneys and breads. This isn’t going to be just for the rustic lovers either, think about adding Perspex (oh gosh I said it again) stands and marble trays to create light displays or go full on with wooden crates, slate tiles and wooden serving boards.

5 Top Tips for Planning Your Magical Christmas Wedding

15th December 2016 by Gemma Leave a Comment

Happy Thursday! I am delighted to have below the first ever guest post from the lovely Jo Cowan and Claire Chapman. They run Belle Bridal in London and are here to guide you through all things Festive wedding! Enjoy ….

With long nights, clear frosty mornings and cuddling in front of an open fire, Christmas is one of the most romantic times of year. When planning a wedding, there’s no better time to choose if you love accessorising and making your wedding fit to burst with little touches that bring out the magic of the day.

You’re almost so spoiled for choice for winter wedding ideas that it can be difficult to nail down some ideas — but fear not! Here are five important things to keep in mind while you organise your special day that can give it that gorgeous winter twist.

1. Play Around With Your Lighting

The long nights of winter mean one thing: fairy lights and fires. When the Christmas lights go up, the world instantly seems brighter and the winter blues are chased away. Experiment with lights draped in different patterns around your wedding venue. If you have a wedding space with an outdoor area, you can make use of the trees and bushes to drape lights through. You could even spell out your names in the lights, or make love hearts.

For a more intimate feeling, you can really make use of candles to your advantage. Not only are they inexpensive, but the flickering light will create a warm glow that’s flattering for all ages. Just make sure that you try your makeup out in candlelight before your big day, to check that the tones work. If you accessorise with jewellery, try and choose jewellery that catches the light, to better reflect the flickering candles and create a truly romantic atmosphere.

  1. Embrace the Whimsical in Your Table Settings

If you’re crafty, you can really go all out with creating your own whimsical table decorations for your wedding. Instead of name cards, why not make gingerbread biscuits with names on them? Or how about collecting baubles for each guest with a name card tag attached? Not only are they seasonal, but they’re create memories of the day for your guests to take home.

You can also theme the food and drink to reflect a wintery feel. Have mugs of hot chocolate ready and waiting on the tables for your guests to warm up with, and instead of a punch bowl, how about some mulled wine? Decorate the middle of the table with fake snow and candy canes and the tables will look beautifully festive.

  1. Hunt Through Wedding Dress Sales in London

Christmas is off-season for weddings, so take advantage of this and browse through the wedding dress sales in London or your nearest big city, to see what you can find. Wedding dress sample sales in London are great ways to find something spectacular that you possibly wouldn’t be able to afford at other times of the year.

When choosing your dress for a Christmas wedding, don’t just think of it as just a dress, but part of the entire outfit. You can accessorise with gloves, faux fur shawls, stockings and other layers that will both keep you warm and add to your outfit’s overall look. When you’re visiting wedding dress shops in London, you can hunt through vintage jewellery shops, looking for oversize pieces that will reflect the candlelight.

image-from-closer

For a Christmas wedding dress, look at styles like ball gowns or lace-covered wedding dresses. While spring and summer are seasons where less is more, in the winter, you can be more excessive with your dress and style. Choosing a dress that’s more covered up is also an excellent way to keep warm, as well as being a beautiful option when done right.

  1. Be Bold in Your Colour Choices

Winter is the time for dark, rich colours like emerald green, dark teal, burgundy red, royal purple, silvers and golds. If you’re choosing fabrics, then pick satins, velvets, or something similarly heavy will bring warmth into the room. You can match the colours in your table settings, your flowers and your wedding party outfits.

winter-bouquet

Colours aren’t only important to make the room more interesting, but they can also change the mood of your guests. Depending on what atmosphere you’re trying to create, aside from the dark, rich colours bringing warmth and opulence into the room, choose colours that you want to reflect the tone of the day.

the-old-parish-rooms

  1. Don’t Be Afraid of Accessorising

An important tip from wedding dress fitters is to take the accessories and shoes you’re planning on wearing with you when you’re fitted. So when you go to the wedding dress shops in London, make sure you take some of the accessories you plan on wearing with you. Especially for a winter wedding when you’re free to accessorise so heavily, the shoes, jewellery and layers you’re planning on wearing can make or break your decision about a particular dress.

It doesn’t have to be just jewellery, either. If you plan to have your hair up, you can even accessorise with natural red berries or pine cones, or sprigs of holly, as a small bit of colour in your outfit. You could even go bigger and make yourself a flower crown. You’re sure to look beautiful and to carry the feeling of Christmas with you as you walk down the aisle.

Christmas isn’t a time to hold back when you’re planning your wedding. If you’ve chosen a date during winter, go all out in decorating and accessorising. Your guests are sure to remember the magic of the day for many years to come.

This is Me…

1st April 2016 by Gemma Leave a Comment

I have had a whole load of new Instagram and Facebook followers which I am totally over the moon about, thank you so much for following my little adventure into building The White Emporium. So I thought it was about time I introduced the woman behind the venture.

me 1

This is me!

For those of you who don’t know my name is Gemma and I am a not long 30, head strong, compulsive doodler, slightly crazy cat lady, who is attempting to take on the Bedfordshire  wedding industry.

The White Emporium was born after my own wedding back in August 2014. I loved every moment of organising my own wedding, everything on the day was either made or sourced by myself and to say I was in my element was an understatement. I am not going to lie the wedding took over my life, our house resembled a scene from ‘The Secret Life of Hoarders’ and I roped in anyone and everyone to help with sticking, sanding and cutting. I had invested so much of my time and my energy into this one day,  so when it was over I couldn’t bare the thought of having to give it all up. So not only on my wedding day did I marry the most perfect man I also started a new adventure all on my own.

me 4

Behind the scenes on a shoot!

I have always been very determined and after (not to sound soppy) a realisation of my own mortality a few years ago, I promised the big guy upstairs that if everything worked out I would start my own business. So here I am! Officially a business woman and owner – with a business account!  Yes I often feel out of my depth and sometimes panicked by what I have started, but most of the time I am excited and constantly driven to keep building The White Emporium. However all is not easy, I still work full time to pay the bills, I often get up ridiculously early and work late with my very unhelpful cat for company, I struggle to balance my time and those closest to me suffer from the zero free time I have. The love I have for those closest to me is immense and I couldn’t be where I am without them, their support and encouragement is ridiculous and you soon learn who your true friends are when they understand why you are locked in your house painting blackboards all weekend!

me 5

An early morning start, still in the P.J s with my unhelpful cat!

It is amazing to sit back and see where The White Emporium has come over the past 18 months. I am lucky enough to have meet some pretty awesome local suppliers and together we have created stunning photoshoots that have been featured in local and national blogs and magazines. I am in my element on a styled shoot and love the planning and setting up of the different looks. I have also had the pleasure of working with some beautiful couples, these are the people that I get up for and every wedding I am involved with I get that same feeling of excitement I had on own big day. Back in January I had all my hard work rewarded when I won ‘The One To watch’ Award at the Four Counties Wedding Awards, it was great to be noticed as a newcomer to the wedding industry and what an amazing way to start what promises to be a action packed 2016!

me 3

I only went and won an award!!!

So what is The White Emporium about? Well it’s about creating weddings that are truly unique and personal to each couple. I don’t believe in the ordinary, I believe in out-of-the-box thinking and quirky touches. Weddings shouldn’t be about a rigid, structured day and a conveyor belt of brides, it should be all about the couple who are starting on a new chapter together and a wedding should reflect this and most importantly their personalities.

In a nutshell this is me and The White Emporium. For more information and to get in touch head over to the Contact page. Make sure you follow The White Emporium on Pinterest for everything we love and inspired by. Instagram for behind the scenes and Facebook for updates. Also don’t forget to follow this blog for more ramblings on weddings, I promise it isn’t always so wet!

Happy Friday Campers!!!

Bunting Love….

29th April 2015 by Gemma Leave a Comment

I am a dab hand with a sewing machine and bunting is one of my favourite things to make. It is such a versatile way to add colour and height into a room.

Weddings are getting more and more creative and the decoration more unique and colourful with every issue of Brides Magazine you pick up. So I thought I would share with you my top 5 favourite alternative bunting ideas.

In at number 5 – Lace  and crochet bunting (did I mention we stock lace bunting)

Watch the light fall beautifully through the dainty lace fabrics. Crochet doilies and the more traditional  lace triangle flags are a must have for summer weddings. Perfect for woodland blessings and old barns.

Closely following behind at number 4 is bunting made from pine cones and ribbon. Effortlessly rustic and simple, it is a great for those who love the idea of a DIY wedding. I love the idea of mixing this with rag bunting which you can never have enough of!

No 3 – Photo Bunting! This can be incorporated in so many ways. why not make garlands adorned with images of you growing up as a child surrounded by all your friends and family. Or use it as part of a guest book, hire a Polaroid camera and encourage guests to snap away and then add the Polaroid onto the bunting. It will serve as a great time line for how the night evolves.

BESPOKE BRIDE

No 2 is Big, Bright and beautiful flower garlands. String carnations ( a relatively in expensive flower) across your venue and watch the colours pop! Or string them vertically to create a sumptuous back drop.

And my all time Summer 2015 bunting idea is…. Lampshades! A key trend for SS15 is bringing the inside out, perfect for creating a unique area. I love how the image below shows them strung from trees, imagine a relaxed seating area below and you instantly have the most sought after wedding vibe!

We have some photo shoots coming up and hopefully we will try and include some of these beautiful ideas.

You can’t beat a bit of Wednesday hump day inspiration!

Rustic Bar Inspiration

10th April 2015 by Gemma Leave a Comment

I hope I’m not the only person that as soon as the sun shines I want to grab a drink and head outdoors put my feet up and soak up the warmth. So with this in mind this weeks blog post is a little bit of home made rustic bar inspiration. Wedding season is just around the corner and what better way to create something truly unique and personal than with your own home made bar. You can play it as safe or as adventurous as you like, incorporate your favourite tipples, why not create your own signature cocktail and serve it in glass drinks dispensers, (have I mentioned before we have those :-)!)

One for the guys and the height of coolness, create your own whisky bar with glass decanters, silver trays and sparkling tumblers, brass candlesticks would help make an awesome back drop. Serve along side the finest cigars, imagine sipping your drink as the sun sets with your nearest and dearest around you reflecting on your perfect day.

Feeling super adventurous? Then create a whole bar from scratch, (you may need the help of someone with carpentry skills). Grab a hammer and get handy with some wooden pallets, the beers can be displayed and kept cool in metal buckets and wheel barrows, wooden crates (we have those to) can be used to create shelves and create height in your display, use the designs of the spirit bottles to your advantage and turn them into a feature weaving your flowers in between them to create an almost living space. ( I am getting far to excited!)

No bar would be complete without a sign, I love the deep south inspired iron light up ones that have become so popular, they make such an impact and would make sure every guest knew where the bar was. Being a sparkle magpie I love the glitter signs, which would be easy to create yourself and adding to our hire range this week we have a cork BAR sign, perfect for the rustic feel!

bar

So I hope this has inspired you not just if you are a bride but if you planning a party, I will certainly be incorporating some of these ideas in the events I am planning this year!

See you next week!

Love Gemma

How to incorporate metal ware…

16th January 2015 by Gemma Leave a Comment

When I was planning my own wedding I collected and found lots of beautiful metal and tin items, many were found buried in sheds and green houses. Long had they been forgotten, left out in the elements to weather and age beautifully! I loved the wear on them, the hints of rust and distress, I just had to incorporate them into my day. As a bride it can be quite difficult to picture these alternative wedding items into your big day so I thought I would share with you some of my favourite images that will help to inspire you.

Flowers look great displayed in tin buckets, my particular favourites are the gyp and lavender, what a beautiful colour scheme the ivory, purple and grey makes.

Layering items together to create a feature make for lovely photo back drops, it also provides a great space for displaying flowers. I’m in love with the below image and hope to use it as inspiration for the display at our next wedding fair.

It’s not just buckets and baths that can be used as decoration, why not display your flowers in watering cans and milk urns. The pink roses in the below image add an excellent colour pop.

At our wedding we used tin baths and buckets to display the welcome drinks and keep them cool. They make excellent photos and provide a great talking point. OI love the below ideas of storing the sparklers in for a sparkler send off and blankets to keep guests warm, perfect for outside orientated weddings.

Black Friday

28th November 2014 by Gemma Leave a Comment

It’s Black Friday today! If you didn’t know that already! It seems to have become another American tradition more and more endorsed over here in Blighty. So in honor of this mad selling day I have created a little inspiration board under the theme of black, scouring the internet these images represent some of the loveliest ways to use such a dominant colour. I’m not a massive fan of having a set rigid colour scheme but I love the idea of bringing in hints and highlights of your favourite colour. I especially love the black trimmed table cloths and runners I think these are such a strong statement piece. Black and gold is such a classic combination especially at this time of year, it has such a feel of sophistication,  the invite design I have added onto the board is one of my all time favourites and I just can’t get enough of glitter!  I hope this gives you a few different ideas in how to use the colour black.

I hope you find some bargains in the Black Friday sales!

Chair Covers – The Alternatives

14th November 2014 by Gemma Leave a Comment

Personally I am not the biggest fan of covers, they are an added expense that in today’s trends look dated and can make your room look cluttered. There are so many beautiful alternatives to just having masses of coloured chiffon hanging from the back of your chair and a lot of them are easy to do yourselves. Instead of having every chair decorated, try having just the alternative chairs or just emphasis the Bride and Grooms chair, these look great in if captured in photos.

I have created a little mood board to inspire you and entice you to think out of the chair cover box, I hope you like it?

I love the snow, it came at just the right time breaking up the monotony of our lives. We have laughed and smiled today so much! To me this shoot is calmness, I look at it and I am immensely proud of all we achieved. It symbolises the first touches of spring creeping into a grey world and that’s just what i feel today. TWE Hire Range - ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The voting was unanimous, you would like to see more of my hire range. Every image I share features either items from my hire collection or my styling work, but I am going to start really shouting about these items in the post and every Friday an item will have some dedicated time in my stories. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I know it's so difficult trying to plan a wedding or event when you just can't get to see items first hand. But just holla and I can send over measurements and more details, (well from the weekend when we aren't self isolating.)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀2020 saw a lot of love for my glass and gold card box, or cigar box, chocolate box or confetti box. Versatility is key for a hire range and this glass beauty lends itself perfectly for collecting cards at an intimate wedding.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Photo: @nickisheaphotography⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Venue: @barnsatredcoats⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀#weddingdecorhirebedfordshire #weddingdecorhirehitchin #weddingdecorhire #cardbox #moderncalligraphy #rusticluxe #creativewedding #indiewedding #weddingtrends #weddingstyling #luxewedding #welcometable #weddingdetails

Big girl pants on! Let’s face it tonight’s an Big girl pants on!Let’s face it tonight’s announcement isn’t going to be what we want it to be. Back In March we probably never would have thought we would be where we are tonight. But there is absolutely nothing we can do about it, we can’t control it all we can do is handle how we react. I know people are struggling financially and mentally. Plans keep getting cancelled and re- made, our day to day life is constantly changing but we have totally got this! Dig deep and you will find the strength to get through this!My inbox is always open! I love the attitude and strength of this shoot! 2020 a year in review! A year of to many tears, t 2020 a year in review!A year of to many tears, to many packets of hobnobs and not enough weddings. But also a year full of support, laughter and working out what is important in life. Of fighting everyday to get your voice heard so Excluded businesses and the impact of missed weddings get to have their say in parliament. To the best, most understanding couples who have helped get this business through the year. I know life has been shit for you, but we can get to your day together. To the local businesses and local community who have supported me when I am down, bought products from me and who keep me going.Full 2020 review blog link in bio! Christmas Haze! I hope everyone else is enjoying Christmas Haze!I hope everyone else is enjoying the post Christmas / Pre- New Year haze? Tier 4 here means there is literally no where to go and no one to see. So it’s quiet days filled with lazy mornings and afternoon walks. Trying to hold onto these days and not get to caught up in the promise of the new year / new start momentum. Things will get better but need to keep reminding myself it’s not going to happen as the clocks strike midnight! Love this setup at @crockwellweddings featuring my brass candle sticks. Happy Christmas! This is me signing out for the n Happy Christmas! This is me signing out for the next few days. Wishing you all a happy Christmas for what must be the strangest of festive holidays we have ever faced. May you find happiness and comfort in these quieter days. I have picked this photo by @nickisheaphotography from N&Js wedding back in September, the only fully styled wedding I managed to work on. I feel it perfectly sums up 2020, the masks in the background a constant reminder of Covid. But do you know what love does conquer all and this couple prove it! As a team you can overcome anything! Love really is everywhere, family, friends, partners, pets. strength and support is there. My heart has broken for others and myself so much this year. When all you want is to hug someone who is hurting and you can’t is something I will never forget. However you have made it this far and you can make it to the other side. This isn’t forever. You will get married, you will hold each other and one day this will all be behind us.So signing out for Christmas with some hope because sometimes that’s all we have. But that’s enough! Have a lovely few days!Venue: @farmhouseatredcoats Flowers: @becky_the_flower_bee #realwedding #covidwedding #married2020 #outdoorceremony #outdoorceremonies #outdoorceremonydecor #bohobride #bohodecor #bohostyling #ceremonyarch #ceremonygoals #loveconquersall #christmas2020 #twestyled
