A Little Close Up Part 2 – Venue Styling

24th June 2016 by Gemma Leave a Comment

First question and the most important? – What is a venue stylist and why do you need one? A venue stylist will ensure the vision for your decor is perfectly executed and exactly as you imagined. By having all the props to hand it is easier to create the exact look you have spent the past few months and years pinning about. The main ethos behind The White Emporium is helping create a wedding that is completely unique to you and reflects the love and personality behind each couple, expressing yourselves through your decoration and venue is the perfect way to do this.

On the morning of your wedding you don’t want to be fretting about the last finishing touches, so leave it to our capable hands as you relax and get pampered.

We offer different levels of styling packages and can be as involved as needed and we love working with other suppliers. Our first ever wedding we hired to was a full set up and we sourced table cloths and runners to accompany the decorative props we supplied, it was certainly a case of jumping in at the deep end but what an amazing feeling when seeing everything pulled together and a venue fully set up. Every time I get butterflies and it’s almost like getting married again.

A Helping Hand £70- Perfect for adding those finishing touches and for the DIY bride without an entourage of wedding planners. Were you worrying about who was going to light all those candles before you arrived or who would make sure the blankets are spread on hay bales? We will also arrange any items you have hired from us and within reason a selection of items provided by yourselves. If you have hired any goodies from us don’t worry we will be back to collect the next morning. This option includes a walk around the venue in the week before the event to fully understand the vision you have for your event. Max length of time at venue 2 hours.

Take The Weight Off £160 – Ideal for venues who won’t let setting up begin until the morning of the event or those that have a vision and don’t know how to bring it to life. We will work with you in creating a wedding that reflects your Pinterest dreams.  Come round to our glam garage and we can discuss over biscuits what you would like your wedding to look like, rummage and pull decor from our range and we will help you pull it all together. On the day of your wedding (or the day before) we can be there with or without you to decorate the venue, we will style our own props and anything you might have. We will happily work and liaise with other suppliers to make sure everything is perfect. If you have hired any goodies from us don’t worry we will be back to collect the next morning. This option includes a walk around the venue in the week before the event to fully understand the vision you have for your event. Length of time at venue depends on amount of work to be done.

Leave It To Us from £350– Planning a wedding or event can be stressful and there is always so much to think about, if styling isn’t your thing then leave it all to us. In our little black book we have a huge array of great suppliers who can provide everything we can’t, from chair covers to roll top sofas we can source everything you need for an amazing set up. Come round to our glam garage and we can discuss over biscuits what you would like your event to look like, we will create mood boards to bring the venue to life and to make sure you are fully happy. We will work with the venue and other suppliers so on the day all you need to worry about is turning up on time. If you have hired any goodies from us don’t worry we will be back to collect the next morning.  This option includes a walk around the venue in the week before the event to ensure all parties are happy with the intended styling. Length of time at venue depends on amount of work to be done.

If you have any questions drop send us a message and we will get straight back.

Happy Friday!

This is Me…

1st April 2016 by Gemma Leave a Comment

I have had a whole load of new Instagram and Facebook followers which I am totally over the moon about, thank you so much for following my little adventure into building The White Emporium. So I thought it was about time I introduced the woman behind the venture.

me 1

This is me!

For those of you who don’t know my name is Gemma and I am a not long 30, head strong, compulsive doodler, slightly crazy cat lady, who is attempting to take on the Bedfordshire  wedding industry.

The White Emporium was born after my own wedding back in August 2014. I loved every moment of organising my own wedding, everything on the day was either made or sourced by myself and to say I was in my element was an understatement. I am not going to lie the wedding took over my life, our house resembled a scene from ‘The Secret Life of Hoarders’ and I roped in anyone and everyone to help with sticking, sanding and cutting. I had invested so much of my time and my energy into this one day,  so when it was over I couldn’t bare the thought of having to give it all up. So not only on my wedding day did I marry the most perfect man I also started a new adventure all on my own.

me 4

Behind the scenes on a shoot!

I have always been very determined and after (not to sound soppy) a realisation of my own mortality a few years ago, I promised the big guy upstairs that if everything worked out I would start my own business. So here I am! Officially a business woman and owner – with a business account!  Yes I often feel out of my depth and sometimes panicked by what I have started, but most of the time I am excited and constantly driven to keep building The White Emporium. However all is not easy, I still work full time to pay the bills, I often get up ridiculously early and work late with my very unhelpful cat for company, I struggle to balance my time and those closest to me suffer from the zero free time I have. The love I have for those closest to me is immense and I couldn’t be where I am without them, their support and encouragement is ridiculous and you soon learn who your true friends are when they understand why you are locked in your house painting blackboards all weekend!

me 5

An early morning start, still in the P.J s with my unhelpful cat!

It is amazing to sit back and see where The White Emporium has come over the past 18 months. I am lucky enough to have meet some pretty awesome local suppliers and together we have created stunning photoshoots that have been featured in local and national blogs and magazines. I am in my element on a styled shoot and love the planning and setting up of the different looks. I have also had the pleasure of working with some beautiful couples, these are the people that I get up for and every wedding I am involved with I get that same feeling of excitement I had on own big day. Back in January I had all my hard work rewarded when I won ‘The One To watch’ Award at the Four Counties Wedding Awards, it was great to be noticed as a newcomer to the wedding industry and what an amazing way to start what promises to be a action packed 2016!

me 3

I only went and won an award!!!

So what is The White Emporium about? Well it’s about creating weddings that are truly unique and personal to each couple. I don’t believe in the ordinary, I believe in out-of-the-box thinking and quirky touches. Weddings shouldn’t be about a rigid, structured day and a conveyor belt of brides, it should be all about the couple who are starting on a new chapter together and a wedding should reflect this and most importantly their personalities.

In a nutshell this is me and The White Emporium. For more information and to get in touch head over to the Contact page. Make sure you follow The White Emporium on Pinterest for everything we love and inspired by. Instagram for behind the scenes and Facebook for updates. Also don’t forget to follow this blog for more ramblings on weddings, I promise it isn’t always so wet!

Happy Friday Campers!!!

Life in Pink…

8th January 2016 by Gemma Leave a Comment

Happy Friday all! I hope you have all settled back well into the routine!

As I have been browsing the numerous blogs, Pinterest and Instagram this week I have been falling in love with the soft muted tones of pale pink! Now I am not a pink girl, I don’t own a single pink item of clothing and there is no pink in my house, but I think this effortless palette is to die for!

Display soft pink peonies in glass decanters and vintage bottles (I am obsessed) and mix with pastel candles and candle sticks for a beautiful tablescape. Flower crowns are the toast of the 2016 wedding season and I love the idea of a delicate heather crown, simple and understated, it is a shame you can’t wear one to work.

This soft pink works amazing when teamed with muted pastel colours, gold hints and bunches of greenery for a real modern vibe. Why not jazz up a naked cake with hundreds and thousands. Amazing!

If you are in need of some colour inspiration I suggest heading over to www.loveprintstudio.blogspot.co.uk you can get lost for hours trawling their beautiful mood boards.

Bunting Love….

29th April 2015 by Gemma Leave a Comment

I am a dab hand with a sewing machine and bunting is one of my favourite things to make. It is such a versatile way to add colour and height into a room.

Weddings are getting more and more creative and the decoration more unique and colourful with every issue of Brides Magazine you pick up. So I thought I would share with you my top 5 favourite alternative bunting ideas.

In at number 5 – Lace  and crochet bunting (did I mention we stock lace bunting)

Watch the light fall beautifully through the dainty lace fabrics. Crochet doilies and the more traditional  lace triangle flags are a must have for summer weddings. Perfect for woodland blessings and old barns.

Closely following behind at number 4 is bunting made from pine cones and ribbon. Effortlessly rustic and simple, it is a great for those who love the idea of a DIY wedding. I love the idea of mixing this with rag bunting which you can never have enough of!

No 3 – Photo Bunting! This can be incorporated in so many ways. why not make garlands adorned with images of you growing up as a child surrounded by all your friends and family. Or use it as part of a guest book, hire a Polaroid camera and encourage guests to snap away and then add the Polaroid onto the bunting. It will serve as a great time line for how the night evolves.

BESPOKE BRIDE

No 2 is Big, Bright and beautiful flower garlands. String carnations ( a relatively in expensive flower) across your venue and watch the colours pop! Or string them vertically to create a sumptuous back drop.

And my all time Summer 2015 bunting idea is…. Lampshades! A key trend for SS15 is bringing the inside out, perfect for creating a unique area. I love how the image below shows them strung from trees, imagine a relaxed seating area below and you instantly have the most sought after wedding vibe!

We have some photo shoots coming up and hopefully we will try and include some of these beautiful ideas.

You can’t beat a bit of Wednesday hump day inspiration!

Rustic Bar Inspiration

10th April 2015 by Gemma Leave a Comment

I hope I’m not the only person that as soon as the sun shines I want to grab a drink and head outdoors put my feet up and soak up the warmth. So with this in mind this weeks blog post is a little bit of home made rustic bar inspiration. Wedding season is just around the corner and what better way to create something truly unique and personal than with your own home made bar. You can play it as safe or as adventurous as you like, incorporate your favourite tipples, why not create your own signature cocktail and serve it in glass drinks dispensers, (have I mentioned before we have those :-)!)

One for the guys and the height of coolness, create your own whisky bar with glass decanters, silver trays and sparkling tumblers, brass candlesticks would help make an awesome back drop. Serve along side the finest cigars, imagine sipping your drink as the sun sets with your nearest and dearest around you reflecting on your perfect day.

Feeling super adventurous? Then create a whole bar from scratch, (you may need the help of someone with carpentry skills). Grab a hammer and get handy with some wooden pallets, the beers can be displayed and kept cool in metal buckets and wheel barrows, wooden crates (we have those to) can be used to create shelves and create height in your display, use the designs of the spirit bottles to your advantage and turn them into a feature weaving your flowers in between them to create an almost living space. ( I am getting far to excited!)

No bar would be complete without a sign, I love the deep south inspired iron light up ones that have become so popular, they make such an impact and would make sure every guest knew where the bar was. Being a sparkle magpie I love the glitter signs, which would be easy to create yourself and adding to our hire range this week we have a cork BAR sign, perfect for the rustic feel!

bar

So I hope this has inspired you not just if you are a bride but if you planning a party, I will certainly be incorporating some of these ideas in the events I am planning this year!

See you next week!

Love Gemma

Flower Love

20th February 2015 by Gemma Leave a Comment

Feeling a little nostalgic today, so was taking a trip down memory lane and found the inspiration board for my wedding flowers. I loved my flowers and I still love these images. I wanted the vintage colours but contrasted them with the bold pops of colour like the bright pink, deep purple and corn flower blue. If I do say so myself they looked pretty amazing! (I know very modest). I was lucky that The White Emporiums number one fan (my mum) has a natural talent for flower arranging, she translated my ideas for the venue and church beautifully, everywhere you looked there was a little floral display. Fortunately my florist Elaine was also on the same wave length and the bouquets and buttons holes fitted in perfectly with the venue displays.

Black Friday

28th November 2014 by Gemma Leave a Comment

It’s Black Friday today! If you didn’t know that already! It seems to have become another American tradition more and more endorsed over here in Blighty. So in honor of this mad selling day I have created a little inspiration board under the theme of black, scouring the internet these images represent some of the loveliest ways to use such a dominant colour. I’m not a massive fan of having a set rigid colour scheme but I love the idea of bringing in hints and highlights of your favourite colour. I especially love the black trimmed table cloths and runners I think these are such a strong statement piece. Black and gold is such a classic combination especially at this time of year, it has such a feel of sophistication,  the invite design I have added onto the board is one of my all time favourites and I just can’t get enough of glitter!  I hope this gives you a few different ideas in how to use the colour black.

I hope you find some bargains in the Black Friday sales!

Chair Covers – The Alternatives

14th November 2014 by Gemma Leave a Comment

Personally I am not the biggest fan of covers, they are an added expense that in today’s trends look dated and can make your room look cluttered. There are so many beautiful alternatives to just having masses of coloured chiffon hanging from the back of your chair and a lot of them are easy to do yourselves. Instead of having every chair decorated, try having just the alternative chairs or just emphasis the Bride and Grooms chair, these look great in if captured in photos.

I have created a little mood board to inspire you and entice you to think out of the chair cover box, I hope you like it?

A mood board to inspire you with alternative chair cover ideas.

Not as easy as it seems…

19th September 2014 by Gemma Leave a Comment

Everyone wants to preserve all the precious memories from their day and your bouquet is no different. I was desperate to keep my bouquet as beautiful as possible, the most simplest and easiest method I thought was to press it. As I child I had collected flowers and pressed them in books and it had always worked, it seemed so simple. What could go wrong? I started with about 50 flowers pressed between tissue paper under heavy books and went away on honeymoon for 2 weeks- mistake number 1. To press flowers you need to change the paper every couple of days. Ooopps! When I checked on them on my return, half were moldy, so in the bin they went- I then learnt of my second fatal mistake, don’t press whole roses! It just doesn’t work! Luckily I had separated the petals off a couple of rose heads and they were still in tact! Phew! So I changed all the paper and re- positioned my remaining flowers, a week later I checked on them again. Again about half were moldy, so in the bin they went and I learnt of my final fatal error – it is vital to make sure each petal is spaced out and they are not on top of one another, else guess what? They go moldy! So from 50 flowers I am now down to 10, but I am quietly confident these last few will survive. The plants that worked the best were the greenery, separated rose petals and the smaller delicate flowers. To make matters worse when I visited one of my bridesmaids in the week there was her bouquet hanging beautifully from the stairs, drying out wonderfully!

It all started…

15th September 2014 by Gemma Leave a Comment

It all began on September 9th when my wonderful husband proposed to me over a picnic blanket. I have always had a love for planning and now I was given the opportunity to plan the most important day in our lives. I loved every minute of the planning, the crafting, the decisions and finally the big build up. So I decided to share my love with others by setting up The White Emporium. I am not going to lie the thought of doing something for myself terrifies me, starting your own business is asking for comments and judgement, but if you don’t try you will never know. So here goes… wish me luck x

2020 a year in review! A year of to many tears, t 2020 a year in review!A year of to many tears, to many packets of hobnobs and not enough weddings. But also a year full of support, laughter and working out what is important in life. Of fighting everyday to get your voice heard so Excluded businesses and the impact of missed weddings get to have their say in parliament. To the best, most understanding couples who have helped get this business through the year. I know life has been shit for you, but we can get to your day together. To the local businesses and local community who have supported me when I am down, bought products from me and who keep me going.Full 2020 review blog link in bio! Christmas Haze! I hope everyone else is enjoying Christmas Haze!I hope everyone else is enjoying the post Christmas / Pre- New Year haze? Tier 4 here means there is literally no where to go and no one to see. So it’s quiet days filled with lazy mornings and afternoon walks. Trying to hold onto these days and not get to caught up in the promise of the new year / new start momentum. Things will get better but need to keep reminding myself it’s not going to happen as the clocks strike midnight! Love this setup at @crockwellweddings featuring my brass candle sticks. Happy Christmas! This is me signing out for the n Happy Christmas! This is me signing out for the next few days. Wishing you all a happy Christmas for what must be the strangest of festive holidays we have ever faced. May you find happiness and comfort in these quieter days. I have picked this photo by @nickisheaphotography from N&Js wedding back in September, the only fully styled wedding I managed to work on. I feel it perfectly sums up 2020, the masks in the background a constant reminder of Covid. But do you know what love does conquer all and this couple prove it! As a team you can overcome anything! Love really is everywhere, family, friends, partners, pets. strength and support is there. My heart has broken for others and myself so much this year. When all you want is to hug someone who is hurting and you can’t is something I will never forget. However you have made it this far and you can make it to the other side. This isn’t forever. You will get married, you will hold each other and one day this will all be behind us.So signing out for Christmas with some hope because sometimes that’s all we have. But that’s enough! Have a lovely few days!Venue: @farmhouseatredcoats Flowers: @becky_the_flower_bee #realwedding #covidwedding #married2020 #outdoorceremony #outdoorceremonies #outdoorceremonydecor #bohobride #bohodecor #bohostyling #ceremonyarch #ceremonygoals #loveconquersall #christmas2020 #twestyled

Quiet- Apologies I have been a little quiet on he Quiet-Apologies I have been a little quiet on here over the past few days. If I’m honest the latest announcements and finding myself and my whole family in tier 4 has been a little overwhelming. To me Christmas is everything, it’s my favourite time of year, I love everything about it and adapting to the new rules has been a little tough to get my head around.I don’t want to wish time away but I can’t wait for this to all be over and to be able to hug everyone I love and celebrate all the events we have missed this year together.Sending you huge hugs to everyone else who feels their world has been a little flipped upside down again.
